"Blown-away experience at THIS IS HOLLAND. The wind is so realistic that you truly believe you're flying over windmills. We took the free ferry from Central Station, with a great view of the IJ. The kids loved the mist part before takeoff."
"We booked the standard ticket and it was great. The 24-meter pavilion is impressive. Tip: arrive 15 minutes early for check-in. The chromakey photo is funny but a bit blurry, so remember to smile. Very short but intense flight."
"Superb 5D effects in the simulator. A bit disappointed by the Saturday queue; we had to wait 25 minutes. The Amsterdam-Noord district is nice for a walk afterwards. We saw the Eye Filmmuseum right next door, making for a perfect half-day."
"Came with friends and we took the Buiksloterweg ferry which runs every 4 minutes. The view of the skyline from the boat was an unexpected bonus. The attraction itself is intense; the wind makes your hair wet. Bring a jacket."
"Our 8-year-old daughter loved it. We got the Family ticket which is better priced than 3 individual tickets. The staff at the cylindrical pavilion is very welcoming. The 9-minute flight passes in an instant. We highly recommend this spot."
"The 24€ price is a bit high, but the immersion is top-notch. We used the I amsterdam City Card; you just need to book the time slot online, otherwise you're turned away. The 19-meter screen creates a true flight illusion. A bit tight when crowded."
"Best attraction in Amsterdam. The simulator is the successor to Soarin' Disney and you can tell. We stayed suspended for 10 minutes at 10 meters. The mist at the start is perfect. We followed up with A'DAM Toren right behind it, a perfect itinerary."
"Solo, it was perfect. No lines with the 15-minute-early arrival. The reconverted industrial district is really nice. We took the chromakey photo; the result was surprising. The educational content about the Netherlands is well done; you learn while having fun."
"Very nice immersion, but the wind is stronger than expected. Hair gets soaked. The free ferry from Central Station is a real plus. The site is well located in Amsterdam-Noord, close to the Eye. We'll come back with the family next summer."
"We did the THIS IS HOLLAND + Cruise combo, very smart. The simulator flight is intense, with realistic smells. The IJ ferry offers a superb view. The 24-meter pavilion is a must. Staff helps well with time slot bookings."
"Very successful experience, but the price is a bit of a barrier. We had to wait 20 minutes on Sunday. The attraction is next to Buiksloterweg, a convenient bus stop. The flight is short (9 min) but the 5D effect compensates. The souvenir photo is a fun gimmick."
"First Benelux simulator of 2017, and still as good as ever. The 24-meter pavilion is majestic. We took the ferry from Amsterdam Central Station, a free 4-minute ride. The fresh air at the start of the flight is a treat. Ideal for couples."

Year of opening
Located in the dynamic district of Amsterdam-Noord, This is Holland offers an unparalleled 5D Dutch experience. Opened in 2017, this Amsterdam flight simulator is the first of its kind in the Benelux region. It allows visitors to discover the Dutch landscape from above, thanks to technology inherited from Disney attractions and installed in a unique cylindrical pavilion.
History and technical design
Built on the former Shellterrein Overhoeks, this 24-meter cylindrical pavilion cost €18 million. Developed by Vekoma and Brogent Technologies, it draws direct inspiration from Soarin', the flagship attraction at Disney California Adventure opened in 2001. At the time, it was the fourth panoramic simulator in Europe, marking a major technological advance for modern Dutch tourism.
The heart of the attraction rests on a massive spherical screen measuring 19 meters high by 15 meters wide. This imposing structure completely envelops visitors, creating a perfect illusion of depth. The four gondolas are suspended facing this screen, offering an immersive perspective without lateral visual distractions.
Upon its launch in 2017, This is Holland made an impression as the first simulator of this scale in the Benelux. The project, initially led by Brand New Leisure before being taken over by Nedstede, represents today one of the most advanced technological tourist infrastructures in the modern Netherlands.
Flow of the 5D experience
The visit begins with an innovative souvenir photo using a green chromakey background. This technique allows you to be digitally inserted into a realistic flight scene, well before boarding. Next, you participate in interactive quizzes via touch panels, testing your knowledge of Dutch culture and geography.
Two pre-shows precede the main flight. The first is a documentary film of about 10 minutes presenting the places you will fly over, recently narrated by Jolijn Henneman. The second is an essential safety briefing, explaining how the gondolas work and the instructions to follow during sudden movements.
The climax is the main flight of 9 minutes. The gondolas move forward several meters, leaving you suspended at least 10 meters above the ground. During the film, wind jets, light mist, and scent diffusers (such as tulips or sea) are perfectly synchronized with the images for total immersion.
Logistics and combinations
The attraction is located in Amsterdam-Noord, easily accessible from Central Station via the free Buiksloterweg ferry. This boat departs every 4 minutes and crosses the IJ canal in moments, offering an unbeatable view of the skyline. On the other side, a short 4-minute walk leads to the entrance of the pavilion.
For holders of the I amsterdam City Card, access is free but strictly requires a time slot reservation in advance on the official website. Without this pre-booking, access may be refused even with a valid card. Remember to check availability several days in advance during peak periods.
This attraction fits perfectly into a combined visit with the nearby A'DAM Toren. Combined tickets are often available, allowing you to enjoy the panoramic view from the tower after the virtual flight. It is also an excellent option in rainy weather, being entirely indoors and air-conditioned, ideal for families or hurried travelers.

Tips for visiting THIS IS HOLLAND
Insider tips
Arrive 15 min early
To allow time for security checks and medical restrictions without stress. Height and health checks are strict and can slow down access if you arrive exactly at your reserved time slot.
Make the most of the Chromakey
The souvenir photo is taken before the flight; smile well, as it is your only visual 'in-flight' souvenir. The chromakey system integrates your image into the aerial landscape, so adopt a dynamic pose for a guaranteed photogenic result.
Prepare for the effects
Wind and mist may slightly dampen hair/clothing; wear appropriate attire if sensitive. These 5D effects are synchronized with the film to enhance immersion, especially during passages over tulip fields or the sea.
Use the Buiksloterweg Ferry
Free and frequent (every 4 mins), it offers stunning views of the Amsterdam skyline upon arrival. This short trip from Central Station is an integral part of the logistical experience to Amsterdam-Noord and costs nothing for pedestrians.
Book the City Card Slot
Do not forget to book the slot online even with the free card, otherwise access will be denied. The I amsterdam City Card covers entry but requires mandatory prior booking on the official website to guarantee your place at the chosen time.
Ideal refuge in the rain
Perfect for grey days, the indoor experience does not depend on outdoor weather. Located in a climate-controlled and covered building, This is Holland remains a reliable and comfortable activity even during typical Amsterdam storms, with no planned cancellations.
Combine with Eye Filmmuseum
The attraction is just next door, perfect for a half-day cultural outing in Amsterdam-Noord. You can easily follow the 5D flight with a visit to the neighboring cinema museum to vary technological and artistic pleasures in the same neighborhood.
Check child height
Restrictions are strict; it is better to check on the website before coming with young children. Minimum height requirements apply to ensure safety in the gondolas, and access may be denied if these criteria are not met.

Little-known anecdotes
The record cost of 18 million
It is one of the most expensive attractions in the Netherlands, built by Vekoma and Brogent Technologies. This colossal budget of 18 million euros allowed for the creation of a unique infrastructure within a 24-meter-high cylindrical pavilion.
A giant 19-meter screen
The simulator uses an immense bowl-shaped screen to create the illusion of flying over Dutch landscapes. Standing 19 meters high and 15 meters wide, this curved screen envelops visitors for total visual immersion.
Heir to Disney's Soarin'
Based on the technology of the Soarin' attraction at Disney California Adventure, opened in 2001, this simulator has been specifically adapted to Dutch landscapes. It retains the principle of tilting gondolas but with unique local sensory effects.
First Benelux Simulator
Upon its opening in 2017, it was the first panoramic flight simulator in the Benelux region and only the 4th in Europe. This technological innovation marked the arrival of Amsterdam-Noord as a major tourist destination in its own right.
Suspended 10 meters above ground
The gondoles are pushed forward, leaving visitors suspended at least 10 meters above the ground during the film. This elevation significantly enhances the sensation of free fall and real flight as movements intensify.
Realistic Chromakey Photo
The souvenir photo is not taken inside the cabin, but via a green chromakey screen to simulate real flight. This technique perfectly integrates each visitor into the aerial scenery of the Netherlands, offering a unique and professional visual souvenir.
